Defining Clean Beauty 

When African American and multiracial consumers think of “clean beauty” they think of products that are made from natural (and no synthetic or artificial) ingredients, and are ethical and sustainable. For some the term also evokes connotations of fresh-faced, natural beauty. For many consumers this notion overlaps with their idea of “Black beauty”.

Buying Clean Beauty, Pricing, and Inflation

There is a strong relationship between preference/purchase of natural haircare products and other attitudes and behaviors relating to clean beauty, ethics and sustainability, lifestyle choices, and purchase choices in other product categories.

Surveyed African American and multiracial women have noticed an increase in the cost of living and pricing of goods across product categories over the past year. Consumers are noticing increases in some categories more than others.
