Deep dive into face and body care routines for African American Women with SSI's Body ody ody ody report.
Needs and Products
Skincare, and particularly body skincare, for African American women is largely about moisture. Cleansing is also important, both for facial and body skincare. Consumers see cleansing and moisturizing as the primary focus of body care routines.
Routines and Brands
While body care routines center on cleansing and moisturizing, they often also include other elements such as exfoliation, hair removal, and foot or hand care. Skincare routines change over time. Changing routines with age happens in all age groups, as women adapt to changing skin needs, and may also become more invested and informed about skincare.
Purchase Behavior
Overall, most African American women buy their facial skincare and body skincare products in the same stores or channels, however, 13% said that they buy facial and body skincare from different stores. These women are often choosing higher-end or more specialized stores in which to purchase their facial skin care products.
