Braids, Weaves, Wigs & Things
Braids, Wigs and Other Extension Trends – what is the preference?
Usage
Most African American and multiracial women have worn some type of braids, wig, weave or extensions in their life, with a majority having worn at least one of these styles within the past year. Consumers choose to wear these styles for a number of reasons including protecting their natural hair, saving time on daily styling and maintenance, variety and changing up their usual look, and wearing looks they love.
Hair Damage
Wigs, weaves, extensions and braids can be both a cause of hair damage, and a solution
consumers turn to in order to cover up damage. Wigs, weave and braids are often considered protective styles, as they reduce the need for frequent manipulation of the hair which can be damaging to the length and ends.
Purchase and Maintenance
Beauty supply stores are the most common channel for purchase of hair and wigs. When shopping for hair, consumers seek a natural look and value for money (not necessarily lowest price).
